Hi, I’m Jessie!
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and have been crafting for as long as I can remember. From ceramics to painting to just about anything else you can imagine, I am happiest with my hands busy working on a project. I believe in the power of creativity to bring people together, and I'm committed to sharing my knowledge and experience with others. Whether it's hosting craft clubs or offering one-on-one instruction, I am passionate about helping others tap into their own creativity and express themselves through art.
I have been working with clay for over six years and teaching workshops for the last two. As a ceramic instructor, I pride myself with creating a supportive, welcoming, and encouraging environment. I regularly create and develop new workshops to draw in artists of all ages, interests, and skill levels, jumping between wheel throwing and hand building classes with ease. I love teaching because I get to introduce new artists to what can seem like an intimidating craft, easing the stress and pressure of trying something new and witnessing how each artist approaches clay differently and creates a work that is uniquely their own.
I believe there is no one correct way to teach ceramics, instead I modify my approach for each student, offering modifications and suggestions to find what accommodations can be made to make the creative process feel most natural. I encourage my students to embrace the quirks of their creations and emphasize how I myself am always learning and making mistakes, how clay can be reused, and that no creative act is ever a waste of time.
